Identifying Challenges of Information Systems Implementation at the Riyadh Emerging Universities

In recent years, the Saudi government established several emerging universities in various regions of the Kingdom, where the government funding them generously and supporting. Most emerging universities in Riyadh adopt information systems (IS) for development and reengineering of administrative and academic systems to improve efficiency and performance in administrative services. Emerging Universities are facing many challenges for survivals in competitive environment have encouraged providing the best opportunities to attain administrative and academic excellence and competitive advantages.


This research aims to identify, categorize and analyze the most important challenges or barriers that hinder the successful implementation of information systems in Riyadh emerging universities as well as identifying the success key to achieve successful implementation. The study used a questionnaire to collect data from IT staff in information technology and communication department in Princess Nora bint Abdulrahman University (PNU), 22 respondents participated in the survey and then the results were analyzed to describe and evaluate various challenges. The study identified top ten challenges that affect on IS implementation more than others from different challenge issues .The organizational issues are major challenges in the way of successful implementation of IS.
